Aquaholic - CD - Review

Aquaholic, the CD released by Bill Cockrell Music, July 2014, is a collection of ten songs in the genre known as Trop Rock. Nine of the ten songs on the CD, are Bill Cockrell originals. The only cover song is 'Thunder Island' written and recorded originally by Jay Ferguson.

From the opening bars of Three Sheets to the Wind, until the final note of Thunder Island, the refreshing themes and lyrics of "Aquaholic" will lift your spirits and transport you to a vacation spot in your mind. Bill gathered musicians and production professionals that are among the best in the music industry, and the result is outstanding.

Some highlights: Track 1: Three Sheets to the Wind - An old term we're all quite familiar with, viewed in a totally different perspective. Fun and thoughtful. Track 2: Aquaholic - Not what you may think. A semi-biographical look at what brought the artist to this point in his life. Interesting and insightful. Track 4: Hump Day - Everyone wants the work week to go by quickly and painlessly, and this glimpse into the emotions that Wednesdays bring out is both thoughtful and amusing. Track 5: Sun After Rain - Bill's tender love song directed toward the love of his life, his lovely wife. Everybody will relate to the sensitivity and emotion this track emits.

Track after track, "Aquaholic" displays the fine musicianship and writing ability of this exciting new artist. Every track has merit and qualities that make each a potential single release, if Mr. Cockrell decided to go that direction.

This reviewer is looking forward to Bill Cockrell's next album with great enthusiasm. It's rare when an artist comes along in the Trop Rock genre who is so accomplished on so many instruments, and also brings a voice that is both pleasant and memorable.

I give "Aquaholic" my top rating, and hope this is only the first of many releases by Bill Cockrell.
