Presented monthly by Jon Burns, and supported by T-Bone Tom's , Railean Rum, and South Shore Harbour Resort. this event was set up to do exactly that....showcase the talents of Texas Coastal songwriters, and their guests. Currently hosted by Texas songwriter Jerry Diaz, this show kicked off in March, 2013. The format is simple...Jerry invites different guests each month for an "in the round" discussion and presentation of that artists' songs. You can expect to hear the stories behind the songs, and often what inspires these songwriters to pursue their craft.
It's an intimate setting, and a "listening" show. More so than with your typical live music presentation, audience members (those within 50 feet of the stage) are asked to please refrain from talking during the actual singing of the songs. Cell phones should be set to the "silent" mode. Of course, applause is definitely allowed (and encouraged!) at the end of the songs! And never fear, you can certainly enjoy dinner and drinks (even close to the stage) and there is always the option of stepping back to the bar area of the Backyard if you need to take an important call, or hold a conversation.
Best of all, thanks to the generosity of T-Bone Tom's owner (and lover of live original music) Barry Terrell, there is never a cover charge for this show. That allows you the listener a unique opportunity to listen to some of the best, and most interesting songwriters around at a very affordable price. Be sure to use that money you saved to purchase one of those songwriter's CDs, leave a tip, buy a drink, or whatever you can to support their efforts at keeping the music alive.
