Stars & Promises 2015

This year we've named our tour "Stars & Promises 2015 – "A Restless World, A Silent Night."  We are fine tuning our songs, setting the stage and rehearsing to bring you our very best.  We will be hitting the road next week and hope to see many of you at our upcoming concerts.

This year's musician lineup includes Yours Truly; Chris Walters on piano and keyboards; Zeb Briskovich on bass; Brendan Mayer on guitar and vocals; Melodie Chase on cello; Eric Darken on percussion; and Mark Holland on flutes.

Chad Stewart and his crew from Stewart Sound will be along with us, adding a creative touch to the stage, sound and lighting, as always.  Our Road Manager, Beth Estes will be doing her part to keep us on schedule and taking care of the behind the scenes details, as she does so well.

La Casa Cayo Hueso

In my first years in Key West, I played Jimmy Buffett's Club "Margaritaville" on Duval Street, with our group PM many times.  I often noticed a guy sitting at the bar sipping a tequila, listening late into the evening.  He introduced himself to us one night as a fellow musician, guitarist, singer and songwriter.  Since then Scott Kirby and I have been fast friends through the vagaries of this musical circus.  In the fall of 2013, Scott called and asked if I'd be interested in going on the road together for a few weeks.  I agreed and mentioned that I had been playing and recording with my son Brendan for a few months since he graduated from Boston University.  I told Scott he had written some cool music and was quite a good guitarist.  I asked him if he'd like to make the duo a trio and see where it took us.  The result has been Mayer/Kirby/Mayer, an acoustic group that we've expanded to include Gary Green on harmonica.  In this recording, we include my long time bandmates:  Jim Mayer and Roger Guth.  We hope you enjoy the songs and stories on this CD as much as we have enjoyed living them.  Cheers and welcome to La Casa Cayo Hueso.  PM

This concert was recorded live on the beach in Key West, November 7, 2015, during the Meeting of the Minds "A Salty Piece of Land" Convention.  The CD is currently in production and will be available for purchase in our webstore on December 22.  Order two or more copies and receive a Priority Mail upgrade at no additional charge!

With Gratitude

Friends and fans, we were humbled and touched to get this letter from a friend who has listened to the group PM for many years. Growing up I listened to the Beatles, Elton John, The Police, Peter Gabriel, and many others. Their songs made my days turn to living color and made life dance even when the world around me was mixed up and chaotic. Here's to you our fans who, along with us, know a song has saved your life. Happy Thanksgiving!!!! Peter
PM's music is wonderful to my ears. There is always a beautiful surreal atmosphere. "If you follow the sunset, will it ever end..." is such a great lyric (to that wonderful song that everybody likes) and with others like "When first we were lovers" it's almost like the scent of trees and the garden on a summer's evening magically creeps out of the speaker right as it starts with the acoustic guitar.

The Street of Dreams album blew my mind in a good way. With "Wind on the Water" it's as if I feel the autumn and then it turns like magic into summer with "Right Time to Tremble" and the unforgettable "River City Sunday," the crushingly happy "Love Blue."  I don't think I have ever been excited so much about an album as I was when I discovered Street of Dreams and I still continue to treasure it some seven years after I first heard it. While it would have been a classic if it ended at track 10, it goes beyond a classic to a ridiculously generous masterpiece with those five extra cuts. The title track has really cool tripped out lyrics "The address that you gave is an ancient arcade, an old house full of games..."  In fact I think the way you start the album with those seemingly nonsensical couple of lines is very clever as if to immediately throw the listener into a naturally tripped atmosphere. "Kiss and Tell" seriously rocks.I also could never tire of astonishing songs like "Last Train to Eden" with that haunting keyboard melody, "Follow Me" and "India." That said, I love all of that third album with the different approach of raw stripped down guitar rock-it look around those said songs. I'm also looking forward to collecting your vast catalog of solo stuff in the near future.

Anyway, in closing, thanks again very much for the music and memories. I'm now 33 but got into PM in my mid 20's. I am from Ireland but in 2014, I moved with my girlfriend of seven years to Trieste in North Italy (she is Italian). There is a two-mile road here in Trieste that leads to the beach area and on one side of the road at one point there is an abandoned section of Train station with a bridge over it that you can walk over. The first days I walked up that road with my brand new life and across that bridge, I stopped on a perfect summer day and the scene of a huge overgrown garden with train tracks reminded me of the Piece of Paradise video. Admittedly, I was probably playing the song at the time on my mp3 player but still, I suppose to come to Italy from cold and grey Ireland was like getting my Piece of Paradise to an extent.

I also think I associate Italy with PM because my girlfriend is from Lucca, Tuscany (you've probably been) and the countryside around Tuscany very much reminds me of Street of Dreams' surreal feeling. Those landscapes and the magical look of those little houses in the hills with tiny and odd shaped windows, vineyards, etc. (like the Red Wine cover!). I think in the end, despite all this painful word salad you might at least sort of understand what I am getting at when trying to describe what beautiful music I find PM to be. You must have had that widescreen, summer feeling and so many of these feelings in your minds to have made it all.

Thank you very much again both Terry and Peter. I'm honoured to have got such a kind (and humble) email from a musical hero. The reason I love music is cause of artists like you.

All the best wishes always,
Dave
